axle housing cleaning (hot tank)

Postby gclauson » Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:35 am

All,
I have an old 9" Ford axle housing that sat outdoors without axles installed. I have tried cleaning it at the car wash, but it is still messy (grease, dirt, sand).

Looking for recommendations on any machine shops that have a large tank to clean this (53" long). I have called everyone in the Longmont area.
Preferably north Denver, Boulder, Loveland, Greely, FoCo, but I may have to drive further, if necessary.

Thanks in advance!

Try these guys. They don’t have a hot tank but can likely get it done. These guys powder coated my roll cage and worked with a company that had a large hot tank.

They were very helpful!
Told me to go to A1 Metal Stripping in Golden. They will do it for about $50-60. Dropped it off and should have it back in a few days.

That’s great- and I don’t know what something like that should cost, but these days- anything under $100 seems like a good deal.

Glad they were able to steer you in the right direction.

That sounds like $ well spent. Post pics on how it turns out.

They did a good job.
They cleaned the axle in some sort of cleaning solution and then blasted it. Looks good. Left a bit of liquid residue in the seams of the rear "cover" that will hopefully dry out with brake cleaner.

I also brought some Exploder rear disk parts that cleaned up very nicely.
Total cost was $90.
