August Breakfast AND TECH DAY!!!

Postby Justin » Wed Aug 06, 2014 8:19 am

The August breakfast will be at an old standby. Keep an eye on this, I'm working on a very cool tech day for after food is done.

Where: Golden Corral off Santa Fe-3677 S. Santa Fe Dr., Sheridan, CO 80110
When: August 16th @ our usual 0800.
How: In your Bronco, of course! Unless you're like me and have a never-ending project.
Why: Because hanging out with the Bronco Bretheren is the second best way to spend a Saturday morning!

Update: After breakfast Jay (JGZ) and Gary (EFI Guy) have teamed up to host a tech day. Gary will be walking attendees through the basics of modifying a factory EFI wiring harness for use on an EB.

Where: Jay's fiberglass shop in Lakewood. It's very cool to see how he makes some of the highest quality fiberglass parts around. It's about 15 minutes from the breakfast location. If you're planning to attend, please PM me and I'll shoot you his address.
When: August 16 @ 10:00. We'll likely caravan over from breakfast. Gary needs to wrap up by 3.
How: In your Bronco, of course!
Why: Because EFI is awesome, and paying $500 for the harness sucks.

Hope everyone can make it! An RSVP for the tech day is helpful but not mandatory.

Let's just say I wouldn't do it with any of the Bronco Brethren.

But the bronco breakfast will probably have to suffice as a substitute in my case

Updated the initial post with the tech day info. You know you want to come out, as EFI Guy is downloading some of his massive fuel injection knowledge directly into our brains. You're good with a mind meld, right?

I am probably going to skip the breakfast in order to play hockey (the other "second best thing to do on a Saturday morning ..... and a far healthier option than the Golden Coral Feed Trough) but I am certainly going to do my best to make it there for the EFI wiring class!

I have to work Saturday till about 1. If the EFI tech is going that late- I would like to come by. Any idea on how the tech day timing looks? I know Gary has to be done by 3 but would it be worth my time to get there by about 1:30?

You may not do so well on the written test if you miss the lecture.

That is exactly how I got through college!! Believe me-- I wish I could make this one more than anything considering my situation. Unfortunately-- the work part of it pays for the hobby part of it...

As much as I want to go to this tech day and as much as I love visiting the restroom every twenty minutes after a trip to the golden corral, I going on the wheeler lake trip.
I'll be shuttling a few parts from north to south so if anyone has anything that needs to make the trip let me know.

The plan is to be at Jay's around 10:00, but I know how the breakfasts usually run late. I'm unsure yet if I will make it to the Golden Corral But I'll be at Jay's for sure.

We will be re-working the Explorer harness for project 33x2. Starting from initial tear down I'll cover what needs to be removed, what needs to be relocated, and how to setup the needed relays. I'll also be sharing some tips like "idiot proof soldering", and "how to cleanly wrap a harness.". While this session will be Explorer specific, much of it will apply to anyone using Mustang EFI as well.

Because these are very time consuming and I need to leave at 3:00, I'm not sure how much of the harness we will get finished, but I want to get the important stuff covered. I'm hoping to make this as hands-on as possible for everyone which should make it go a little faster. I'll be handing out sharp pointy objects for everyone to use, along with plenty of stuff that burns so I don't want to rush it. I want to stay focused on this harness, but if any of you have one that you'd like to bring feel free. We can get your wires labeled and questions answered for you to be able to finish it on your own.

Gary, I'd like to offer up a public thank you to both you and Jay for doing this. We've got some very talented folks in the club, and the willingness to share time and information is part of what makes this a great group to hang out with. You guys rock!

No sweat, the way I see it what comes around goes around. Which means you poor suckers will pay once I end up with a Bronco and need help. icon biggin
I don't mind sharing information and helping at all. The real thanks should go to Jay for putting up with us for the day.

Please no video though, I hate being filmed. Over the winter I plan on making a couple videos of how to do each year of harness. However, it will be heavily edited to cut out shots of my ugly mug and censor my potty mouth.

Huge thanks to Jay for hosting and Gary for teaching.

A couple of good tips that I gleaned before I had to run off to work.

- Pull the entire engine bay wiring loom from these three points; from the firewall connector to the beyond the main relay/fuse box (on the driver side fender) and beyond the aux relay/fuse box (on 98 & later the aux fuse/relay box is deeper into the harness, so just pull it separate with a long pig tail, like 3 ft).

- Pull the trans harness even if you aren't going to use the 4r70w, it includes the o2 sensor wire/connector that needs to be reincorporated into the engine harness.

- If you want to use the "good" 4r70w from the '98 then you need to pull the same year harness.

If I dorked any of that up I'm sure it'll be corrected soon.

The rest of the folks were still going strong when I left and I believe they'll have a reworked & complete harness for a '97.
