Holy Cross September 13th

Postby landshark » Sun Aug 03, 2014 7:30 pm

Looking at putting together a Holy Cross run on September 13th this year. Had a great Bronco turn out last year and looking to see if anyone wants to join up for a great trail run.

I will be camping once again along the road up to Holy Cross, will probably head up on Thursday afternoon or early Friday morning on the 12th. Post up if your interested!

I am a bit flexible on dates, so if this weekend doesnt' work we could move it a week in the future..

I'm interested.

Do you think my rig is capable of doing Holy Cross ?

Yes shouldn't have too much trouble, gets slippery but with your lockers you should walk right up most obstacles..

Landshark,

I didn't read the details thoroughly enough.

What time do you plan to hit the trail on Saturday morning ?

I would be planning to come up on Saturday morning and probably head home that afternoon / evening.

I'm going to join this run as long as I can find a sitter for my youngling (or he may cut his teeth on this trail???). I will also be driving up Sat. morning and home afterwards.

Holy Cross September 13th

Postby landshark » Sun Sep 07, 2014 9:41 pm

I'm still planning on this. Weather looks good but could change as we all know. I plan on camping fri night and perhaps sat but can play it by ear. For those that want to head up sat let me know and we will set a time that's good for you.

There's no cell service there but we can just meet at the trail head which is hard to miss.

Let me know!

News tonight said possibility of overnight temps in the 30s and a very slight chance of snow in the mountains starting Friday/Saturday.

I'm still "in like Flynn" and will be coming up Saturday morning.

It looks like it will take me about 2 hours +/- to get to the trail head from my house.

If anyone else is coming up Saturday morning, we could meet up and caravan to the trail head.

Landshark, what time should we meet up ?

I'm still in at this point. It looks like it may be cooler in Denver/ along Front Range on Friday than in the hills. If the forecast changes to anything cooler/wetter, I may have to bow out. I don't mind camping in the cold, it's the drive that gets chilly for me!

I was planning on heading up Friday after work (would probably be warmer than Saturday AM). I've got to be in Silverthorne on Sunday morning, so I was planning on camping on Saturday night as well. But if no one else is going to, I'll figure something else out.

Understand. Hope you can find a rear.

Looking at the weather it still looks good. If you want to check try red cliff or aspen.

Landshark -

What time are you planning on leaving tomorrow? I'll probably be stuck at the office until 3. I just need to gas up and get ice and I can be on the road.

Also, do I need to bring any firewood? I've got one of those bundles you get from the store sitting in my garage.

Let me know.

I will know when I will be leaving this evening, I haven't driven my 69 in about 3 weeks and I need to go pull it out of the other garge a look over it to make sure its ready to go.

I would love to be there before dark but not sure that will happen - I HOPE to get out of here around 4pm..

Sure bring firewood, I plan on bringing a bunch as most camping areas off the road up there are stripped of firewood due to the easy access. We can get wood off the trail - which is what we did last year but Fri will be chilly so a nice fire would be great.

I will update everyone tonight on when I will leave and where i plan on staying up there - most likely the same place as last. Large clearing on the right hand side of the road

here is where I stayed last year - this is a popular area so plans might change but camping is pretty much all off Homestake road so shouldn't too hard to find me/us.

Have fun! All this talk if chilly weather, off-roading, and campfires has given me an itch I need to scratch (insert inappropriate Shawn Gregg joke). I plan to do a lot more of this next year assuming Orenthal James is put back together!

I am recovering from a pretty serious cold so I won't be doing any manly camping this time around.

Mike and I have opted for the opulence that can only be found at the Super 8 in Leadville.

We can meet you guys at the trailhead (or wherever) at whatever time (name it, we'll be there)

I plan on leaving Denver at 3:30pm - will be camping somewhere along homestake road but will try to camp on the location above or across the road near the creek. Its a popular area so if neither of those work you will have to find me or meet at the trail head at 8:30am.

I am obviously driving the Red 69 with the black softtop
