Work day at Roxborough State Park

Postby Kinder » Fri Jul 24, 2020 9:09 am

Every so often I get to combine the love of Broncos with working in the Park. A few years back CCB pulled some old tanks out of various spots in the park for recycling.

This time I'm looking to put a crew together for some back country logging. I need to harvest some trees to build buck & rail style fence for the front side of the park.

This isn't a trail run or 4x4 rock crawling trip, but it is an opportunity to drive your Bronco into an area that is normally off limits to any vehicle beside a park vehicle. The trail that we'll be accessing will have vegetation encroaching, so if you aren't into Colorado pin striping, then this may not be for you. It is currently dry, but a working 4x4 system is required so we don't tear up the area anymore than we need to.

I'm thinking a crew of 5-10 folks w/ Broncos and if anyone has a small trailer that they think will fit down a narrow track behind their bronco would be great. I should be able to start dropping trees this weekend so we have a stack to start dragging or hauling out. I'll have a couple of logging chains for dragging and I'll have my off road trailer to stack trees into.

August weekends look good for planning, I prefer Saturdays since I'm already working but I can do a Sunday as well. Let me know by voting on a weekend if you are able to help.

Aug 8-9
Aug 15-16
Aug 22-23 (Rubicon Run if it is still happening)
Aug 29-30

Thanks!

I can most likely do it any Saturday but the 22nd. I can’t do Sundays.

Cool. I'm likely down if work doesn't get in the way...I have some crazy deadlines coming up. Just waiting for them to hit. If work doesn't get in the way, I would appreciate if people abide by the 6' rule and if you're within 6', mask up! I have to be a little more careful than most.

Quick update, looks like corridor clearing that we’ve been doing will prevent any pin striping. So bring out the trailer queens!

Is there a plan? Place and meetup time? Do we need to bring any tools, etc.?

Yes, sorry for not posting earlier.

Looks like we are going to luck out and have cooler weather. How does 9am sound to everyone who can make it? I can do a earlier or later, I prefer early but I don’t want someone begging off if they have a far drive.

The meet up place is:

West Metro Fire Station 15
6220 Roxborough Park Rd
Littleton CO 80125

I’ll be in the parking lot just behind the building.

All you really need to bring is clothing for backcountry work, we’ll be working in a sloped area with scrub. So sturdy boots, long pants, long or short sleeve shirt (depending on your tolerance for scratches) and gloves.

I’ll bring extra water, but a water bottle and snacks would be good.

No tools needed, the park has everting we need.

If I think of anything else I’ll post up before Saturday morning.

Can everyone who is able to make it roger up so I can get a head count.

Thanks!

For those who wondered what a Bronco can do outside of your garage! (Poke, poke).
