Summer event? Lake George area?

Postby akaFrankCastle » Wed Apr 15, 2015 9:47 pm

We keep talking about wanting to do another CCB summer event. So, let's get some chatter going.

This week I'm working west of the divide and have gotten some initial information concerning a potential location.

Here's the location I'm referring to: http://www.mlazyc.com

I'm sure it is too late to get Memorial Day locked down. And there might already be a Bronco event going on that weekend I am unaware of.

Anyone know of any wheeling in this area that would be enticing enough for those so inclined?

Another activity offered by the location, besides that which is listed on website is a flat range available for 500/day. Obviously significant interest would be necessary for us to lock that down. All calibers and types can be used. Limited targets are on site. Best to plan to bring your own.

This is my second time visiting this location. Both occasions have been very positive for me. Worst case, it makes for a decent base of operations for wheeling and exploring the surrounding area.

A positive is that it is close to the front range and makes up for a late start to planning.

Thoughts?

Glad to see this.

I would love to help with putting on a CCB summer event, especially if it includes some optional wheeling opportunities. Throwing lead would make it just that much more fun for me.

I agree that Memorial Day is probably too soon at this point.

I think Labor Day week end would offer the best opportunity for people to participate.

Let me know how I can help.

Trails in that area are the Gulches (longwater, metberry, hackett), as well as China Wall. I have not been on China wall in some time, but I have heard it has been tamed down a bunch. It wasn't particularly difficult in the first place unless you were unlocked.

Recent report on traildamage.com seems to confirm China Wall isn't much of a challenge, but the dude ranch looks nice. Any place that offers cowboy style shooting and primitive camping gets my vote.

Kinder - have you had a chance to chase down the ranger regarding the service project we spoke about?

It could be part of this summer event.

Summer event? Lake George area?

Trails that aren't much of a challenge do afford a level of opportunity for those who don't have massively tricked out trucks.

The range is currently booked during Labor Day. However, there is a chance it could be open on Saturday. Won't know until week before.

Also, bunk house is booked. 6 RV spots (25/day) are open and all primitive camping spots (15/day, four people per spot) are open.

Meals provided would run 28/day or 14/meal. (Math is hard.)

What other questions?

Any other thoughts?

I would be willing to commit now in hopes that the range would become available.

Could we have a big ass bar b cue for the whole group even if they aren't staying overnight ?

If the range is of significant interest then we might need to reschedule. Here is the current range schedule:
Friday, 4 September- likely open
Saturday, 5 September- booked (cowboy action competition)
Sunday, 6 September- open

A BBQ can absolutely be arranged. The owners are very flexible for our plans. However, because they are also a venue for law enforcement and military training, we might need to look at alternative days in order to ensure we aren't having to make concessions due to a training event taking place.

As in weekdays? Plenty of those open. Don't know many people who can cut out from work though.

We could do a different week end

I would take Friday off, maybe even Thursday and / or Monday.

Seems like a good long week end place.

Could go see Pikes Peak, take the kids fishing or horse back riding, and maybe even do some wheelin or shootin

How about we lock down an area of interest and a general schedule? That will give us a good read on when we can do it, I would think. I haven't been involved in planning one of these excursions yet though.

Should we stick to two days worth of activities? Perhaps plan for the majority of people to travel "to" on Friday afternoon/evening and the rest on Saturday morning? And then the marjority departing on Sunday afternoon "from".

Location: Is the HWY24 area desirable to everyone? Should we shoot for a location that is a bit easier to access for the majority and play it a little safer this year, with the goal being to expand and increase the number of activities?

Memorial Day is obviously out.
I'm in and out of town the first three weeks of June. But, I'm only one guy.
The 4th isn't too attractive, I wouldn't think.
Also gone the first week of August.
Labor Day is far enough away, but the facilities do not afford us full accessibility during that time. Alternate location?
Columbus Day?
