Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass 8/23

Postby Gunnibronco » Sat Aug 23, 2014 9:51 pm

Since Chris had to work and couldn't come down and do Williams, Hancock & Tomichi Pass, I decided to do part of the Alpine Loop today.

Left Lake City via Engineer Pass. The weather was partly cloudy to rainy. At the top of Engineer, the clouds really came in heavy. It was an interesting feeling driving down a shelf road at 13,000' with 20'-25' of visibility.

Beautiful! I need to get up there and do some wheeling. When did you get new flares?

Dropped into Animas Forks. A mining ghost town. I was there in 2000 or 2001 with a Full Size Jeep rally. They have done a bunch of restoration of a few buildings, and allow you to walk through them. Pretty cool.

We need to have a club run to the Ouray, Silverton, Lake City area. The scenery is awesome! A LUBER could easily have done the entire run today.

I put the Silverbacks on last fall before hunting season. You will want a set. Today was a perfect example. A little mud and water on the trail and you'll be chucking mud ALL OVER your rig. The rear tires flip mud onto the front windshield, and the front tires cover the side windows. So after a few hundred yards you can't see out of any windows! When you try to roll down a window, the mud/dirt gets between the window sweep and window, and scratches the side window. Unexpected results of going full width.

Last few pics of Cinnamon Pass. It was pretty rainy, and we were getting tired so there aren't many pics.

I remeber you talking about that awhile back. Metal flares may be in my future. On the other hand, flinging mud on my kids has a certain appeal.

Nice pics. I was just looking at the alpine loop the other day.

And yes work was fantastic!
