How to Prep

Postby B.O.B. » Wed Nov 11, 2020 8:51 pm

I am replacing my windshield frame and need to prep the cowl. What is the best way to prep it so I do not have issues after paint? Any help would be appreciated.

If possible, clean the area really well. If bare metal is showing, put on an epoxy primer or etch primer.

When you set the windshield frame, use a drill bit or something to scrape off the paint/primer from the holes then you can weld to clean metal.

On a side note. I am swapping over to a bolt on windshield frame and need fasteners. What have you all used?

On the bolt on frames I’ve dealt with I’ve used flat (countersunk) style bolts so they don’t protrude into the hinge space.

Counter sunk stainless hardware - make sure you put antisieze on the threads if you go this route
