Project "X- Dezert Guy" '76 F150 prerunner

Postby Dirtheadz » Sat Mar 12, 2016 4:16 pm

Yes "Dezert" is intentionally spelled wrong... Lol. As many of you know: a) I'm a transplant from Las Vegas & b) yes... I used to race desert (4 stroke, open, 250 & 125 Nevada (AMA district 26) and Barstow (AMA district 37) area. Hanging out and countless races SNORE, SCORE, Best in the Desert, MRAN & MRANN, VORRA; pits and tech inspections, running from In & Out Burger & back with food. So desert (off-road racing) always remains in your blood. With that said & a recent acquisition from Pgilbeau, I'm starting my own tube chassis prerunner based off some of my favorite trucks (Steve Olliges class 8 amoung others). This is my first attempt at a complete tube chassis. I've back halved and tubed firewall to grill before, but this is my first 100%. The plan is to have this completed within 3 years, so this will be a slow build (more time then $$$$). Many of you (my friends) know, I'm cheap, and typically build as much as I can. Im actually on "Dezert Rangers" more than I'm on here at CCB, so you never what deals may pop up to expedite the build. Sorry for being so long winded.

The dream: I plan to run FOA's coilovers/ shocks & bumps (there cheap) 2.5's 16's front, 18's rear, 1-1/2 mounting width. 37's (wish 39 BFG Project TA's but gual durn). 9" rear, take TTB D44 outters and fab twin I beams with swing set steering. Fabbing my own 60" rear links (boats, canoe whatever the hip-sters are referring to them these days). 460/C6. 118" wheelbase (standard wheelbase) 84" track width (standard width).

Do you even realize how hard it is to drill holes through double panels 6" apart & keep them straight and square????

Main cage bent & tacked. One of the tightest cages I've done.

At least now I can start the main frame rails & cut the rest of the firewall out. Still need to tack in the roof bars.
