8 Years later, off to paint

Postby jcb9089 » Thu May 16, 2013 9:36 am

Started this project with my father in June 2005 after I returned from being stationed in England. I was pretty naive about broncos back then, so it cost me more than it should have, but its finally off to paint in Ohio. Going with Deep Cherry Crystal Pearl and white flares/top.

The original paint job looks very similar to the first Bronco I ever remember seeing, back in Alaska in 98. That was the one that gave me the Bronco bug.

Getting fitted prior to paint prep. There is a gap at the rear of the driver door from the rocker pushing the qtr panel back too far. So he is going to cut/weld both rear rockers and eliminate the seam. Other than that, looking good.

Checking gaps? That sounds like a professional move.

Went with the Dodge Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl. For the longest time I planned on Burnt Orange, but love this color. White flares and top, Argent grey grill. My father installed hood vent support by cutting out original hood vents and mounting under cutout.

Thanks, think the hood pic had 3 coats of color and 3 more to go.

They are going to put a fine coat of rock guard on the top of the top and the dash. Hard to tell but the inside of the hood is lined with rock guard under as well.

Here is a couple more. Top goes on and then all the tedious but expensive little things need to be done.

Alex, had to part ways with the White one after I retired from the Military. Had 3 broncos, 2 projects and one complete. When projects sell, they seem to always lose money so I sold the complete on. Hated to sell it because the paint was amazing.

After all the work, I've learned to never sell again. I'm keeping this one and the half cab project I have too.

Anyone know of a good hauling company, enclosed trailer?

Your guy in Ohio does really nice work !

Have you considered moving the rear axle back an 1" to center it better in the wheel well ?

I noticed that rear wheel too. They make bolt on kits to move it back 1". It will be on my list to move further back.

You also have the option of re-drilling the spring perch and upper plate.

Yeah, as Justin said, it can be done cheaper. I had a friend make me new plates from 3/8" thick steel, but my perches already had a hole drilled. I think I had to widen it tho.
