Limited Slip Dana 44?
OK, so I have been trying to figure out if the front axle in my 76' is limited slip or not. I know the rear axle is. Here is what I have so far......
The shop manual I have says the front axle is a J or J8 code depending on how you read it.
The ID tag on the glove box gives the axle codes as "B8J" or B8 for rear "locking" and J for power steering.
I have deciphered most of the tag on the axle as; 3.54 Gear Ratio D6TA AJC as D = 70's, 6 = 76', T = Truck, A = Unknown AJC = Unknown BOM 603421 3
Any thoughts?

B8J-B8 is 3300 lb rear axle with 3.50 gears and limited slip. J is power steering.
B8Q would be that same rear axle plus power steering and front limited slip.

603421-3 shows as a standard 3.54 Dana 44 according to the Spicer parts catalog. Sorry bro.

you could always jack the front, lock the hubs and give one wheel a spin. if they turn the same you have some traction device. not sure if I would trust the tags as who knows what happened in the last 35+ years. that is how I found mine was lim slip

yes i left that out. i layed under it and jabbed my foot againt the opposing wheel, things you gotta do when working alone.
