Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Finally got back at working on Lucy. Got the carb reworked and then found a bad fuel pump, but she now runs. Even backed it into the alley and then back into the driveway! Farthest she has moved in 3 years :)!
Depending on how tomorrow goes, hope to get the rear pulled and see what needs to be done to get her back on the road in sort of good condition.
And....3 year old gas is no fun to play with, but surprisingly it runs pretty well. I see a few fuel filters in my future.
Happy 4th to All!
Matt

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Got her put back together, cleaned her up, removed some really sun faded windows, and drove her around town for a bit! Still has carb issues, but nice to be back on the road! Big thanks to Kinder for helping ensure I didn't destroy the rear end!
Had Bill's on Broadway build me the right sized driveshaft. Great shop and had the driveshaft in 24 hours!
That being said...anyone have a home remedy to make the rampage windows clean enough to see through after sitting in the sun for years?
Hope everyone's weekend is great!
Matt

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Drove it for the first time in over 4 years! And if that wasnt risky enough we did Blanca peak! Aside from some fuel pump issues and some u joints that need some grease we got up and down safely!

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
About 6 weeks ago I took the PS gear box off the Stroppe'd 72 and shipped it off to Andrew Norton of Baja Broncos Unlimited. I got it back in the mail a week and a half ago. And today I finally got around to reinstalling it. Steering has never felt this good in anything I've driven. Even the Red Head box in my Super Duty doesn't feel this good. Having sorted that out, I'm almost ready to go back for my inspection to get tags.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
When it rains Went to move the Bronco out to the shop and all I got was click, click, click . Tried to jump start it, still click, click, click. Change starter solenoid , nothing. Must be starter, 4 part stores later I have a starter, put it in and click, click, click. Install a third solenoid nope. Jump start it and it starts. Well my 14 year old Optima red top has died. It reads 12.7 volts but will not turn over the motor, took battery out of the vette and bronco runs. I think the Optima and checker reman starter died at the same time. Put red top in vette and got the click. And my new helper was not much help, Otis is a 7 month old lab, he thought he should lay on my chest and clean my ears while installing the starter. Good it died now I will be going elk hunting in the next few weeks.

Replaced a rear axle seal and noticed that is was not put in all the way. There was a little rubbing going on. All fixed and now the next project

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Nearly have a new 1994 explorer radiator installed in Old Yeller. It required "a few modifications" which are more challenging when you have a winch and bumper that just doesn't unbolt. I cut the lower radiator brackets and made a couple more to fit some wrecking yard isolators. Engine oil cooler had to be removed too.
I found a better fan clutch for the steel explorer fan. It moves the fan forward about 1". It is also rated for severe duty vs heavy duty for the stock clutch. This will get the fan blades almost 1/2 way into my shroud. Oh, I had to narrow the shroud to fit the new radiator too. I might be able to give it a test spin tomorrow. 20160906_173946.jpg 20160906_174038.jpg 20160906_200047.jpg 20160906_200035.jpg

Drove it to the airport for the first time since replacing ruptured fuel hose.
Runs like a champ and holds fuel pressure between 67.5 and 69 regardless of throttle position.

I'm calling this one a win. Got it all buttoned up, pressure tested, heat soaked and test drove in 90* city heat. No drops of coolant and the temp gauge was steady at 190. 20160908_171020.jpg 20160908_171037.jpg
