Post Budget stroker
I'm operating on the assumption that the crank on my 351w is bad and the block is good. As long as I need to buy a crankshaft a stroker seems like a good option. The primary goal is to build it up as a solid workhorse with good torque. Longevity and durability are the plan over absolute power. I'll likely stick with a flat tappet cam for budget purposes and GT40 or stock 351w heads since I've already got both. I realize this will limit my top end, but I'm not likely to rev past 4k much anyway. After I get the current list of projects done I'll save up and buy a set of good aluminum heads.

Any suggestions? I'm inclined to go 408 since it won't require clearancing the block like a 427 will and it'd perform better with my stock heads. The cost for the kit appears identical to the 393 unless I can find some cheap 302 pistons in good shape. I'm thinking cast crank and hypereutectic pistons, but will gratefully take info you guys have.

Also, I'd cheerfully skip this entire thing and buy a good stock 351w crank if any of you know of a good deal on one.

I may have a stock 351W crank in the shed. Think I spotted it while I was looking for straps yesterday. Pretty sure it came out of a 96 351. If I can confirm, pick it up in your next Pueblo trip.

Also have a pile of pistons from the same motor.

Thanks, but I just scored that rebuild kit off craigslist about an hour ago. I'm hoping to not go 060 over though. Are the pistons you have stock diameter?

I assume so.

Thanks for the offer. I'm guessing my block will need to go at least 030 over. Might do 060 simply because I've now got the pistons and rings, but probably not. Rather do it right than cheap.

I got an entire 351w that I tore apart last winter. I had it build 10+ yrs ago and ran it in my bronco, put over $3500 into it. If you need anything, I have everything. Except a crank, that was the problem. Pistons, rods, comp cam, performer intake, stock worked heads... Let me know. I'm liquidating to pay for nitrous system for mustang.
