Re: Now: The Old School Super Duty
I've seen the last one. Too complete for my tastes.
I'm looking for something in the sub-2k arena. Engine is immaterial as is the transmission. Axles are somewhat immaterial. If I go 7.3, I'll use a donor truck's D60/10.5 with rear disks and speed sensors. If I go 12V Cummins or similar, I will likely keep the stock axles for a bit.
Basic criteria is decent cab, matching VIN on cab and frame, TITLE, long bed frame. Original paint and a decent bed would be nice. Also, would like a camper special bed with the tool box built in.
The Idaho truck is off the table. The body is absolutely trashed with rust. And there are title issues (body swap, original VIN tag not saved). And the guy selling is not the titled owner (selling for "customer" who didn't like quote for repairs).

#1: 2wd #2: I see a high rust to price ratio. #3: 2wd AND more than I want to spend #4: 73-77.5 frames are more narrow than later frames making the 7.3 swap a larger pain in the ass. #5: F150

Re: Now: The Old School Super Duty
It's an F150. I'd prefer F250-350. I do believe there is a frame difference.

Re: Now: The Old School Super Duty
As far as I know the front frame width is the same in all years of the dentside Ford. It was the width of the back of the frame that changed with the highboy F250 being the last hold-out until mid 1977 model year. A good source of info: http://www.fordification.net/

Here is a chart of frame widths and wheel bases for some of the F series trucks, covers 1960-1979, (accuracy?):

Re: Now: The Old School Super Duty
I appreciate that.
What sucks is I like the subtle body styling differences in the 73-77 trucks but would prefer the rolling chassis from a 77.5-79. The extended cabs were only 2WD F100-150 in 73-77.5. Also, because diesel has the larger spout I'm almost completely stuck with a 77.5-79 bed, in order to accommodate the installation of the larger fill necks without incurring body work.

Re: Now: The Old School Super Duty
Seen the STL one last week. Knowing MDOT's history of salt use, I'm sure that thing is just a shell.
About 4 years ago I found a CCSB in Pueblo for 1200. It was in great shape and RAN. Called the guy, set up a time, grabbed my buddy's trailer and headed down. Made a follow up call just to be sure and the seller told me a guy had just drove it off.

2WD. You can just barely see the rear mounted PS gear box in the last picture.

The one in Las Cruces isn't bad. That doesn't appear to be a "short bed" in today's terms...

Found a cab today at the salvage yard. Has been repainted once. Didn't see any rust on it at all. Original vinyl floor liner and back seat still in it. Just might have to go back and grab it for a later date.
