Finally doing it

Well yes. I sat in a classroom for three hours with 27 other people ranging from mid-twenties to mid-eighties. About half were women. No range time, no test, just sit and listen. Some of what I learned could answer Gunnibroncos questions. For instance the reason his range time distance was around 2 yards is because it would be hard to convince a jury , depending on circumstances, you were in fear for your life if you shot someone at 30 feet. I also learned in the state of Colorado you can carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle without a permit the same as keep a loaded weapon in your home. Both are considered protecting your property. Your permit is good for approximately 35 states and you can apply for a dual permit with Utah that would add an additional 4 states. I now have my certificate and need to go to the sheriffs office with $150 to complete the process.

LOL, exactly what I learned. The myth of the movie style "shoot out".

Watch the movie Smokin' Aces. Or at least the shootout in the elevator. That will give you a fairly accurate depiction of what some concealed carry shootouts are like. The object of the "game" is exercise proper situational awareness to ensure the situation is either avoided or stopped before you're within two yards of your life ending.

I tell people all the time that having a permit makes me even less confrontational now. Mostly because I realize that ANY argument or situation can now lead to a scenario where a deadly weapon could come in to play; either drawn by me or accidentally discovered and drawn by a person I am involved in a physical altercation with.

I've thought about the same thing. Especially the consequences of someone finding/getting my gun.

Amen! They told me in my class was the best way to not need to draw your weapon was to avoid the confrontation all together.

I've had mine for several years now and recently got insurace from USCCA. Along with the defense insurance they have a list of lawyer's in your area. Do I think we should have to worry about needing this? No, however we live in the "We sue for any reason" time and figured this would hopefuly not wipe the bank. I'm sure you could find other places to get this if you google it.
My take on the training is that it's none of ANYONE'S business what training I do or do not have... Most people that have canceled permits will seek out more training on there own without being told to.
