Got land?? Full time camping...
Call me , but the wife and I are thinking about living in a fifth wheel full time...for a few years. We have thought about doing it for quite some time. I think we are going to do it, but only if I can find some land to put it on with in driving distance (~45 min) to Denver. Curious if anyone has or knows of anyone who has some land that they would rent? I am having a heck of a time finding anything. We found one RV park, but it wont work because the entire park is gravel and filled with some sketchy looking people. BTW, If I do find land...I am building the camper (really a house) on a goosneck trailer. Looking forward to doing it too.

I had some friends do this while we were all training en route to another assignment, they loved it.

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
You said it right, working this crappy desk job just to afford a house in a safe area of town. I rather spend my money on the same things and more time with my family. We have watched the video from that guy at least three times ( http://tinyhousebuild.com/photo-gallery ... nterviews/) . By far the best design I have seen. Nice full size kitchen, stairs instead of a ladder to get to the bedroom, and a full size bathroom! I would do something similar if I did not have a 9 month old. I designed mine using floorplanner.com using many of his ideas. I put it on a 40ft gooseneck. Pretty big, but when you make two bedrooms, it becomes small quick with any smaller of a trailer.

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
You'll have to post a progress thread when you get it going. I'd be happy to come help out on the build here and there. Would be good experience before we start ours. I think we're still 1-2 years out. I'll have to check out that floorplanner.com, hadn't heard of that before. I'm trying to figure out a way to take that build and raise it up 1-2' off the deck of the trailer. I'd like to put long storage drawers under the floor that are accessed from the outside for skis, rock climbing gear, camping gear etc. Otherwise I'll look at building a barn/shed on the property to put a climbing wall in and store that gear.

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
Some good information if you haven't seent this already: http://minimotives.com/2014/06/25/where ... iny-house/One option that might be good for you if you're looking to stick close to Denver is to buy a house with a big enough yard/lot to park your tiny house then rent out the main house.

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
Sounds like fun. But what happens when child #2 comes along?
I like the idea and I too think it'd be fun, but I wonder if you'd be better off with a very nice used 5th wheel trailer already made. Then you have something that was designed to travel down the highw... wait, you're not planning to travel with the trailer much?

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
I gotcha. I have seen a fair amount of 5th wheel remodel builds on pirate4x4. A know of a couple that they stripped the trailer down to a bare from and built it all over from scratch. Maybe worth a search for more ideas. But I see why you'd want to build it from scratch on a gooseneck. Might want load jacks at all 4 corners because cheap-ish land will be out east where the wind blows hard! Sometimes tornados. What about one of those sea containers in a 40ft flavor and bury it?? Or not bury it for that matter, but anchor it well! http://tinyurl.com/le9kfu5

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
I also should add that the idea of building the tiny home is using as much free and cheap material as possible to keep costs low. I admit, this will be difficult for me because I love Lowes! But, my wife is definitely more thrifty, frugal, cheaper than I am so we should be able to stay on track. Not sure if you have ever searched the free stuff on Craigslist, but it is amazing what people give away!

More FREE housing... Maybe start by pouring a basement and slide this over the top! Has a couple AC units on top. This one needs to be moved and full renovation, but hey, it's FREE!!! http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/zip/4546721069.html

Re: Got land?? Full time camping...
mickphatmac . . . You may be on to something with the mobile offices. Finding a bunch of these pretty cheap. Only down fall I see is the width. I would have to get an oversize load permit to move it and pay for it to be moved.
