Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
The gas can is cool. I did this with 2 20mm ammo cans. I removed the latches from the short sides, and welded them to the long sides (caddy corner, so to speak). The cans are too close together to use the latches on the short sides. I welded some angle iron to the short sides on the bottom, and bolted through it. So I can unbolt them without emptying them. Not such a big deal, really, I've never taken them out. You can still put the stock seat in with them there. But I never have it in,because the only thing I haul around is my dogs.
They have a pretty water proof seal, and hold chains, jumper cables, tools, some parts & misc supplies nicely.

Chad - I did the same thing with my 7.62mm cans. But I raised the floor with some 1x1 angle and expanded metal so the chains wouldn't be sitting in the water.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
I haven't had the top off my Bronco since I put the boxes in, but I doubt much, if any water would get in. The boxes have a pretty good seal around the top, and I didn't run the bolts through the bottom of the can, so there really is no way for water to get in. Other than loading wet chains into the cans.

Never gone "snow bashing" usually use my chains during hunting season. Then there is so much clean up I usually just unload everything and reload after everything is dried off.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
I got a little piece today for my birthday. It was the only thing left I worried about breaking on my Bronco. Guess it's time to yank the t-case and mod the shift rails for true twin stick ability while I clean it up and install the heavy duty output shaft.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Actually a few of my problems went away with the Atlas. You really have to pay attention to the engine tho. My only break due to torque was an output yoke & driveshaft all while at idle. But you clearly have something that works for you and I commend that!

Pulled the old 302 out yesterday and sold it. Going to pick up a v8 mountaineer soon for a donor vehicle.

Installed a Harada model MT-3 power antenna which has antenna for AM/FM and CB radios.
Wire it up in the morning and play some tunes !

Decided to get it in the garage instead of working off a trailer....

Installed my new extreme duty rear output shaft today. Really nice piece and really easy install, especially when you guess the shim thickness on the first shot! Took a side by side shot to see the comparison. 20130915_090043.jpg

Wow, nice shaft! Any signs of wear or abuse on the old one?

That's sweet. The speedo drive can be swapped over, correct?

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Is that a rear output? Looks a little longer. Does that shorten the driveshaft?

I put colder plugs in the 69. Seems to have solved the slight ping I had.

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
My brake rod had been modified incorrectly by the PO. The rod would not push on the brake light switch so Crawlercreations added some metal to it and I very carefully filed it down by hand until it worked properly. I thought I was good, until I was on my way to work the next morning (5:30 am = still dark) and I could not see my brake lights, it looked like they stayed on with my running lights. So this weekend I took a closer look and found that the PO also wired them wrong. When applying the brakes, the filament for the running lights would light up (so they were not bright at all), and when the running lights were on, the filament for the brake lights would light up. After switching the wires at the connector, I finally have functioning brake lights!!!

Re: What have you done to your Bronco today? (v.2)
Swapped out the metering rods in the carb to lean out the top end a little. Then drove it through a mobile emissions station flat out at about 4500 rpm in second showing an indicated 11.5:1 AFR. Needs more tuning, but I'd love to know what the numbers were.
