I've talked about it often. Things always seem to get in the way. Work. Tiny garage. Sloped driveway. Well, now I wanna do it. I want to pull the body off the frame, and before/after that, I want to be able to suspend the body and frame, with no axles underneath. So, anyone have similar plans down the road and want to help design/possibly pitch in funds on a tub/tub-frame rotisserie? It doesn't even need to rotate. That's something we can hash out later.

Hmm, maybe buy one already done? I know of a guy who just re-built a '79 Bronco. I wonder if he'd sell his??

I have a heavy duty cart that I built out of some of that shelving I was selling. It breaks down and I plan to put my tub on while I am doing the body work. Once I am done - I will be more than happy to pass it around the club for others to use at no charge.

wanted to revisit this again as I have a few ideas that I want to get out of my head and on to digital paper. Things have a tendency to get lost in my noggin.

I was thinking of some sort of a gear and crank mechanism on one, or both sides, of the set up. Something that would allow a single person to easily turn the tub with possibly one hand. Obvisouly a pin of sort would also be required to hold the tub in a 90* position while floorboards, etc. are welded or worked on. Something similar in concept to the hand crank winches on a boat trailer?

Also, I was thinking interchangable forks. One set up for a tub with no frame. Another set up for a tub on a frame. Tub on the frame set up would be a short design, intended to go in to the frame rails. Could be a problem though for those frames with welded on bumpers, winch mounts, etc.

It needs to be on a slider in the middle so stretch guys or wanna be stretch guys can play too.

Zach - on the crank design, my Dad built an engine stand a long time ago. He used a fly wheel and starter gear for the mechanism. The starter gear was welded to the hand crank and the fly wheel to the spinning part. I don't recall what he used to hold it into position, but it worked well, even for big truck diesels. You could even modify the handle design to accept a drill for faster operation.

If I get bored this week, which i most likely will, I could put a design into solid works a modeling program. That could tell you how much weight it will hold, how big a gear would be needed to turn, and how much it will weigh, and my personal favorite how high u can drop it from.

I had a friend of mine that built one out of 2 engine stands. It worked great for what he was using it for and it worked for any length. The only limit was weight but he did a couple of older Camaro's and some truck boxes with it. The great thing was he could change them back into engine stands when he needed them.
