Haha.....Yea.....90+ is HOT.....but just think......getting on that bike and riding down some of the big hills in the backcountry....wind blowing through your hair.....sweat flying off like it's raining on Justin behind you. Doesn't that just sound like a vacation!

One thing to keep in mind.....biking is a great outdoor activity and done right, you will get a bit of cardio....but....if you want to see massive results lifting is the way to go coupled with clean eating. Lifting in and of itself is a cardio workout. My heartrate gets up to around 155 during leg routines. Sounds like you are doing most of that already so biking is icing on the cake:)

Yep....really anything you do activity wise is better than nothing. If you are looking for muscular development though, lean body mass, and definition (even without big mass), lifting is the only way. You need to lift as heavy as you possibly can to trigger muscle growth. Body weight is great, as long as it's not below what you could normally lift.

Meh, 20ish. I've done a decent amount of riding in the area from when I lived in Littleton. I'm only about 10 minutes from Matthew/Winters, the Dakota Hogback and Apex, and I could ride to most of the Green Mountain trailheads.

right now im 260 pounds and doing another bodybuilding competition the spring. i have always been very active and an athlete. after retiring from football, i need a new challenge so i went to bodybuilding. right now my meals consist of high protein and proportioned carbs per meal. on weekends i let loose with beers and such but pretty consistant. i train 5 a day week with cardio at least 3 days a week. during contest prep meals are super strict and cardio everyday and train 6 days a week.

Post Re: Your fitness goals?
Good stuff in here. My goal is just to maintain. Bulking up would be cool, but can be a downside for a pilot.

In my experience, general activity is the best for general fitness/weight loss, even if that activity isn't necessarily...active. It works for me because it keeps me from getting the "boredom munchies".

At 14 years old I hit 220. It wasn't a lean 220. Ended up getting as much cardio as possible. The dieting wasn't really that tough. The first 3 weeks were the worst, as I adjusted to the new lifestyle. Eating a small breakfast can get the metabolism going. I made a meal chart and saw every piece of food as a caloric number.

Anyway, got down to 158 from 220 by junior year, bounced up to 175ish by about 20, hit the weight machines with a vengance by 24 and was up to 192. Quit lifting weights and now I'm at 175. Now it's all about maintenance. It would be nice to get more lean, but without gaining wieght.

I think cardio vs lifting varies from person to person for weight loss. Neither one actually burns enough calories to make much of a difference. In other words, hitting the treadmill or weight machine isn't going to offset that extra hamburger. That said, I found that cardio and lifting both jacked up my metabolism enough it helped with weight loss.

An interesting side note here, if you're on a strict low-calorie/low fat diet for a long time, your metabolism might get screwed up enough that a one-night overindulgence (6 slices of pizza in my case) can actully make you lose weight. If you hit a plateau, but are still trying really hard, try this trick and see if it works. Risky, but can work.

Also, drink LOTS of water. Lots. And have a glass or two right before you dish up your meals.

Hopefully my experience can help somebody who's thinking about losing weight. Your mileage may vary.

Nick

Great info! Sounds like you've been around the block also.

You are dead on about the cheat meal....like I mentioned I do once a week. The logic behind it is that on a very clean low carb diet, your body starts to think its going into starvation mode...that cheat meal tricks it into thinking its not.

From my experience......calories mean nothing if you are eatig clean. I eat 6 meals a day that average about 5lbs of food and I have no clue how many calories there are. What matters is fat, carbs, and protein at the right timIng.

What do you fly? I'm commercial, instrument, multi....and I've worked for Jeppesen for the last 12 years.

Not flying anything currently (it's been about 6 years since PIC), but building a Hatz Bantam biplane. Of course, the Bronco has priority.

It's cool to see another pilot on here. Aviation is a thrill.

Yes I have been following the diet plan. I think that made the biggest difference for me. Before the p 90 x I use to skip a lot of meals. 6 meals a has been the key.

Yep..keeping that metabolism revving with 6+ meals has made a huge difference for me. Granted, they are all "clean" meals but it really helps to see cuts.

I just got back from 5 day with family in CA and was able to maintain my diet other than dinner.

I used to compete at state level in the USA Powerlifting association. I had a 1st place bench and 4th place in a full lift meet. I miss it a lot and no time nor money now. LOL When I am back out of college I will start another lifting program for myself.

Decided I have another 18 months once I graduate from A&P and will continue on for my masters in aviation maintenance. Still have goals for my private pilot and will focus on my IA after that.

Summer break leaves me a lot of time to think, and :drink:
