Penrose/Canon City area
Anyone know of an off road park/OHV area down around here? On of my co-workers today mentioned seeing a bunch of Jeeps/off roading type vehicles headed to an area near his house, which is on the west side of 115, just north of Penrose.

The independence trail system is right there. That is the only one I know of near there.

Penrose/Canon City area
Just checked it out on Trail Damage. Doesn't exactly look weekend warrior, weekday driver friendly.

Re: Penrose/Canon City area
Liberty is in my opinion. I drove my bronco there, ran liberty in and out and drove home without a problem.

Re: Penrose/Canon City area
Liberty, being the easiest, is still no walk in the park. I think it takes 35's & locked minimum. Maybe only one locker if you're really good with your rig. You'll drag diffs all day long on that trail. http://s1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff4 ... 20Liberty/

There's a reservoir over there...

Re: Penrose/Canon City area
I noticed that.
Dude who works for me has a place right over in that area. Maybe a mile from the trail head. 15 acres with at least a 2000 sq ft shop. Offered his place up as a staging/camping/repair area if we wanted to go down and run Independence. I think a significant percentage of us are not equipped to go bash that trail. HOWEVER, if anyone out there is interested, get in touch with me and I can get you set up with the guy.

Re: Penrose/Canon City area
That's pretty awesome! Liberty is less than a 1/2 mile long and slow going, so guys could walk it easy. So if 2+ guys wanted to run it, many more could just walk and watch. And Gooseberry Patch in town has awesome pie.

Re: Penrose/Canon City area
If anyone is interested, we are running Liberty this Sat. Meeting at the trail head around 9. It is doable with 35's and lockers without damaging your rig. 33's can do it, but will be hitting rocks.
