So fed up with USPS
So last week I sent out two pieces of mail, one day after the other from my house. First one was a large check for a storage container than only has to travel 15 miles to the next town. Has not arrived yet. Going to cost me $30 to stop payment. Next was a mothers day card for my mom. She never rec'd it either. Got a call today from my postmaster and she saying there is nothing she can do. I ask her what I am to do about the $30 it's going to cost me to stop payment on the one check, not to mention the hour and $8 in fuel it'll cost me to hand deliver the next check. I wish this were the first time. But it's just amazing to me that unless you pay EXTRA to get tracking or insurance, you can almost count on it being lost. My taxes pay the salary for the folks who process these pieces of mail, I expect the delivery of such to happen on a fairly consistent basis. I am starting to understand the meaning of "going Postal". Thanks for listening... J.D.

Re: So fed up with USPS
I hear ya - I certify and return receipt everything I mail at work becuase between the USPS and State Governments, I get a double-dose. I have had very little issue with personal items in the USPS, but monthly I have to prove timely mailing at work. There are stories of the Postman dumping someone's 300 wedding invitations in the dumpster instead of actually delivering them.

Re: So fed up with USPS
I called Customer affairs in Denver and there isn't anything they will do for me except send me a form that I then fill out and send to Atlanta mail recovery center. I've been there done that with no results. She said that next time I should add delivery confirmation or something. Nearly blew my top on that one. These are NORMAL pieces of mail. I shouldn't have to pay for anything other than proper postage and 99% of the time, it should arrive at it's destination.
A postman who dumped my wedding invitations in the dumpster would have a very intimate meeting with that same dumpster. Wonder if he was an ex of the bride-to-be?

Re: So fed up with USPS
Been there done that. Last year, I sent a check to a subcontractor for $14,000. He calls me, says, where's my money at and I told him that it was sent almost a month ago. A couple days later, I get a zip lock baggie in the mail and my check that looked like it went through a shredder enclosed. Couple weeks ago, I send a bill to a customer, again, they call me saying could you send me my bill. Same thing, I sent it almost a month ago. Couple days later I get half an envelope & half the bill in a zip lock. Customer got the other half, but didn't know who it was from until I called them to let them know about it. Both times I walked into the post office and had a talk with the manager to which she told me, tough luck, sue us.
That is one gov't funded service that it wouldn't hurt my feelings if it went completely under. For the most part, they are rude, lazy and incompetent. There are a few letter carriers that I know who are good workers, but on the whole, the USPS is about as worthless as tits on a boar.

Sure isn't a good way to do business is it? I think for the most part they have good people but the system let them get complacent or maybe it is the system that made them complacent. Whichever it is they need to figure out the customer service aspect or they will all be delivering pizzas instead of mail.

Wait. You mean government run services don't work well? That can't be the case. I mean, health care shouldn't have any of these problems, right?
But I digress.

Re: So fed up with USPS
I retire from the Air Force in 2 months and have vowed NEVER to work for the government again unless my kids are starving. I could go on for hours about how broken/bloated alll govt agencies are. People create positions to justify their existence and get pay raises because the more people that work for them, the higher pay grade they become. All of which results in frustrating and incompetent bureaucracies. The entire govt needs Bob and Bob from the movie Office Space to clean house.
