Right on, thanks. I'll go look at the one I've got, probably won't work, is my guess.

edit: looks pretty similar to the WH one, guess I'm going to have to do some reading.

Thanks

Any rear sump 351W pan should work. Might be some differences in dipstick location. Just be sure to use the correct oil pickup tube with it.

The oil pan on my last bronco with the 351w was from an F-250 and it worked fine. It took a small dent from the pumpkin once when I jumped the bronco inadvertently but didn't affect it. I was lifted 3.5" with stock axles. You should be fine with the F-250 pan.

Picked up the oil pan today at the Bronco Hut (their new shop is going to be sweet!).

Brought it home and it didn't fit. Hit the windage tray, hit main studs, hit oil pump even! So I decided to make it work. I clearanced the studs and oil pump a bit and removed the windage tray. It would take some serious customization and fab work to get it to work with the stroke and pan.

After coating everything with blue dye and borrowing some play dough from my son to check the oil pan pickup to oil pan clearance...everything fits!

I too had issues with a windage tray in my 460.

So contemplating carbing this thing for a while...in the interest of $. What are the fuel delivery concerns going this way? Since I will not be running a mechanical fuel pump, can I run the oem tanks/pickups and use an external electric pump? Would I need to regulate the pressure at the carb? This is what I'm thinking....

You can run a electric pump. I run a Holley Red on my 64 and I put a regulator up top with a pressure gauge for my own sanity. I also ran a carter electric pump on my 78 with no regulator. It finally gave out last summer and they didnt sell that pump anymore (its probably ten years old) and I replaced it with a Mr Gasket pump. I have no complaints about any of them. just make sure its for a carb. engine.

Im going to install an electric pump on the current system for the carb on the 302. Did you also run the mechanical pump at the same time?

I bought an Airtex E8090.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATX-E8090

Also, you need to wire these pumps up with a relay and switch correct?

Remove the mechanical pump. 30gph might be enough for the 302 but that 427 might be pushing it. Regulate it at 5.5-6psi at the carb.

Yes use a relay and a switch is a good idea if u want to be able to disable the truck, a lot of guys hide the switch under the dash as somewhat of a security fuel cut, other wise just run the relay signal off of a suitable ignition hot wire

One thing, if you use electric only remove the mechanical and install a block off plate. I didn't do that one my '83 Bronco and had a good sized oil leak when the diaphragm finally gave out after a few yrs. Also it sounds funny cause you could hear the pump as it pumped just air.

Just a heads up with that oil pan... If you use a WH track bar riser bracket on the front axle, your track bar will "self clearance" the pan a little. It didn't cause me any issues, but it sounds like your tolerances are a lot tighter than mine.

No sir. Old drivetrain and fuel take are out and I'm slowly working at cleaning up the engine bay. Next will be the fuel system. After that I'll bite the bullet and get some heads.

What carb?

We're running qjets on three strokers up here... all run great...actually better than great. : )

Call Bruce, talk to him for a while and understand why this guy is so freakin' knowledgeable about q-jets. He taught me several things I didn't know about at all about them. Great guy.

Just a quick update.....302 and tranny have a new home down south. Bronco is status quo for now. Viper is tearing into T and J xfer cases I dropped off and building the best of both.

Plan has changed a bit and I'm thinking of pulling the body off the frame. Then getting the frame blasted and coated....and reassembling with the new 427 > Viper C4 & D20.

I'll update when that begins.
