Post Tire Advice
I know this has come up before for others but with the varying opinions etc I thought I'd ask again. My girlfriend picked up an 02 4runner last week and we took it up to Winter Park over the weekend. The tires were pretty awful and we were sliding around a fair amount over Berthoud pass and even in town with only a dusting of snow. The tires were pretty low when she bought it 7/32 in the rear and 8/32 in the front.

Anywho we're lookin to throw some good shoes on it to make it more reliable for snow and offroad but trying not to lose streetability as it is her daily driver. Use for the rig in order of frequency will probably be:
1. On road/highway DD
2. On road/highway snow
3. Off road dirt/gravel for camping and TH access
4. Potentially some light off-roading trails

A lot of the reviews/forums I've looked at have pointed to the GY Duratracs, GY silent Armor and Nitto Grappler among others but wanted to see if anyone here had personal experience with them. Some of the reviews on the duratracs stated they had to be rotated/balanced constantly and that they got really torn up on gravel.

Any input is appreciated!

Dura tracs are nice. Won't last as long as some but arent to bad in the noise dept. You can try Michelin ltx at2, a little on the expensive side but last forever and a great mild at.

just my .02

BFG Rugged trails used to be a great tire. They have recently changed the tread design, but you might look at those.

Also Yokohama Geolander AT's

There is always the BFG AT's as well. May be on the more aggressive side than you're looking for, but keep them rotated and they should last you a while!

I've read some pretty awful reviews of the BFG AT's especially in snow so I was shying away from them. I'll take a look at the others mentioned, thanks!

I had Rugged Trail's on my Expedition and those things were great tires. Quiet but aggressive enough for mild off road use. A/T's are a good tire but a little louder. I've always good luck with BFG, never had a problem with em in over 30 yrs of running them.

Hankook ATM's or the MTR. I have the atm on my bronco and also my fullsize dodge and love them. Good luck with your choices. JP

I have Goodyear Silent Armors on my '04 4Runner and they have performed nicely. The are more designed for SUVs and ride very well on the street. They have also worked great in snow.

I've got 35" BFG ATs on the Bronco....so far, I am not impressed...but I haven't really driven it hard yet.

Chris I forgot about cooper. I wanted the Zeon's for my truck but they didn't have the exact size I needed. Heard many good things on that tire, even from Land Rover guys.

How do the silent armor's hold up off road? We do a lot of 14er climbs and we're getting to the point where having 4WD to get to the upper trail heads will shave miles off the climbs round trip. And since the Bronco is going to be a work in progress for a little while we'll have to use the yota for now.

When i made my decision on my 37's it was down to the Cooper SST's and the Goodyear Kevlar MTR's... i went with the MTR's because they had been out a bit longer and for what I wanted to do they were a perfect fit.

But I have heard good things all around about cooper's other tire models...

SilentArmors are great off road. I haven't done anything crazy in the (and won't), but for general dirt/gravel/light mud/water, they work fine.

I have just under 50k on my BGF A/T with many miles left on them and I drive I70 Denver-Silverthorne 260 days a year and they haven't let me down yet, not the best snow tire but I trust them enough to do 60mph down the eisenhower with snow on the ground.
