It is the sun stupid
I've been following this for years & real science, not political power mongers, will play this through. The data is going to turn, and everyone is going to know there is much more at play than CO2. It is absolutely funny to read the excuses these "scientists" use to keep insisting that CO2 has much to do with climate change. The idea that the sun's activity levels have a "negligible" affect on global temps is absurd. So when the data doesn't back up their theory, the info is glossed over & minimized. Please read this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ ... again.htmlIt is the best article I've read in a while about solar (and ocean) cycles and the affect on the climate. I've expected this, as solar scientists have been expecting very low solar activity, and now it is happening. Crazy to look at the solar activity graphs.

My son in law works for CU and a few yrs ago talked to one of the NASA scientists about global warming and the scientist told him the very same thing the article stated. Go figure. I've read some of the same things as that article.

Re: It is the sun stupid
I've never been a follower of the whole "Human-made CO2 is the main cause" argument.
One factor people ignore is the pattern of glacial and interglacial periods that have taken place over the Earth's period. I don't know enough about them to know whether or not the sun is involved, but the fact we are in an interglacial eriod explains global warming. The planet has been steadily warming since the peak of the last ice age, not counting the smaller cool-downs since then, of course.
It is also cooler now than many time periods which are considered "climatic optimum". At those points in time, the planet was much hotter and life absolutely thrived. Another interesting point is that, according to some authors, the planet can go from glacial to full interglacial in as little as ten years. Not sure how true that is, but it would explain a sudden die off of animals every time it happens, most recently, at the end of the Pleistocene when there was a die-off of thriving megafauna (Mammoths, Mastodons, Lions, Sloths, Ancient Bison, Sabercats, Camels, etc).
When the planet has been doing this "cool-down and heat-up" dance for a long time (geologically speaking), it's hard to imagine the sun, along with internal climate factors, have not been the major cause.
Pleistocene Mammals of Europe by Bjorn Kurten is a good resource for glacial/interglacial information.
Now you guys know how big of a nerd I am, so bye now.

Re: It is the sun stupid
I've been following the "cult" of scientists who are skeptics and learned a lot about the Maunder Minimum and the larger solar cycles. This article did a great job of clearly portraying solar activity's roll in world climate. Now it looks like the data since the end of the solar maximum is trickling in and as they say, the proof is in the pudding.
You can't deny climate change, its been happening forever. But we are very far from really understanding all the causes. And to spend a huge amount of money, or cripple our economy trying to fix something we don't understand is not only wasteful, but probably criminal (ex: Al Gore, University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit, and the UN Climate panel).
I just watched a good doc called "Cool It", a former Greanpeacer is now campaigning against "cap & trade", and even any attempts to limit CO2 levels. He is the new enemy of the man made climate change world. "Cool It" uses good logic & facts to show that we can spend our limited budgets on limiting CO2 and get back little or nothing in return, while spending money on other social & environmental programs can yield huge return on investments.

Re: It is the sun stupid
This is good!! I've been saying for years that it's simply a cycle. Man is trying to control something it (we) cannot. Then making excuses for why what we're doing is not working... I am all for not being wasteful and respectful of our planet, but I love to see the pie in the faces of the mainstream scientists!
I am ready for the snow to stick around all winter here in CO, like it used to.

Re: It is the sun stupid
Being an avid snowboarder, who's built an entire life around a winter sport, I really love the snow. Watching the winter weather has been a hobby of mine since I moved here, and my motivation to learn about the weather cycles.

Re: It is the sun stupid
Since we are on the topic of weather, I'm an avid winter weather watcher here are the web sites I use. CAIC is the best CO mountain weather site out there: http://avalanche.state.co.us/pub_bc_wx.php?aNOAA is not bad, average CAIC & NOAA forecasts and you'll be right most the time: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=COZ012an awesome composite of all nexrad radars across the US http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full_loop.phpsomething a little closer to home: http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/northrockies_loop.phpthese are always wrong, but its fun to look: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/p ... rchill.phpspace/solar info: http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/SWN/index.htmlhttp://www.swpc.noaa.gov/SolarCycle/

The "Inconvenient Facts" are starting to roll in: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... intcmp=122http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/201 ... an-thoughtHAARP is looking more believable than man made global, er, climate, er, whatever.
