Postponed- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Springs
Two years ago we ran a BBQ in Colorado Springs at Bear Creek park. Aside from all of the vapor locking and lack of a pavilion, everyone seemed to have fun. So, we're looking to do it again this year!
Reservations are currently in for 25 August with a pavilion and seating for 50. More than that are welcome to attend and we'll be checking back often to see if a larger pavilion opens up. We'll have the pavilion from 5am-11pm, so no worries on fighting for our spot. Two built in grills are available for our use and until fire bans are lifted, only propane grills can be used to augment that.
Keep checking back and we'll get information posted up regarding food, events, and other details.
We're looking to try and include a morning trail run prior to the BBQ for you dirt and rock junkies.

If the weather continues hot and dry, the built in charcoal grills might be off limits. We might need a couple gassers for g.

Definitely keeping that in mind. I hate propane grilling but I hate packing up and moving my valuables more.

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
As predicted, El Paso Parks and Rec removed all the charcoal grills from all parks earlier this week. Propane is still good to go.
Time to gauge a little interest. Looking to find out how many of you guys and gals might be interested in a mild trail run before the BBQ.
Based on travel time to local trails, we would likely have to push the start time of the BBQ an hour or so to the right, ~1:00PM or so. If we have a majority who are simply interested in grub and games, we'll keep the start time @ 12:00 and the trail runners can grab their food and join in after they get back.
Suggested trails would be: Mount Baldy for the stockers and gawkers.
Eagle Rock for the lockers and rockers.
I've added a poll to the original post. Please chime in with your interested participation.
Depending on interest from the masses, we could be looking for trail leaders for each of the runs.

I'd be up for either as long as I've got the front regeared and locked by then, and I wouldn't mind heading up eagle rock/saran wrap as I'm pretty familiar with the trails, not as much with baldy though

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
You most certainly can reserve a pavilion. We're in pavilion #3 and have the reservation for the entire day.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
So, I've updated the first post with a new thread. Please indicate, as best you can, how many people you will be bringing and if you can come.
Unfortunately for me, work has other plans for that week. However, the pavilion is still laid on for us! I'm looking for someone in the COS area that I can drop off the vittles and charcoal to. Any volunteers?
Once again, the pavilion is ours from park open to park close, so please take advantage.
Trail run poll results were (4) for Mount Baldy and (2) for Eagle Rock. If we have some volunteers who can lead those runs, that would be great.

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
I'd intended on spending most of the day at the park. If anything, it would be nice to get out of the house and chill out in some fresh air with the Bronco. Now, it will be solely dependent upon whomever decides to show up. I'd imagine those running trails will not make it to the park until 1-ish. With volleyball courts, soccer fields, and the great outdoors there should be plenty to keep people occupied. I'd hoped to throw in a visit by some people from work, but I don't think that is going to happen now. We'll see.
Bottom line is, it's our day. Enjoy as much or as little of it as you like!

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
I have run all of the trails up there, so no problem if you need a trail guide. Prefer Saran Wrap/Eagle Rock to Baldy, as they are more fun for me... What do we need to bring for the BBQ???

Re: 25 August- COS Bronco BBQ, Bear Creek Park, Colorado Spr
I've got 2 bags of Matchlight in the garage and will pick up more this week if it looks as though interest will warrant it.
I'm going to pick up somewhere around 6 boxes (72) Bubba burgers too.
So, that leaves: Condiments Drinks (non-alcoholic, it is a city park after all) Plates, forks, etc. Side dishes Chips
The usual BBQ fixins.
