-an ptfe hose assembly
I bought -6an fittings and black coated -6an ptfe hose from anfittingsdirect.com a while ago. Finally trying to get the h-boost & p/s together, but I cannot get the female 'nut' over the ptfe hose. I've watched a few youtube videos on assembly and they all make it look so easy. I wrap the hose in electric tape & cut with a cut off wheel. The stainless wrap flares out enough to prevent the nut from fitting over the hose. If I peel the black coating off the stainless braid, it flares out even more. I've tried water, water & dish soap, & oil to lube things, but the nut just won't slide over the end of the hose. Really don't know what I'm doing wrong, or what else to do to get things to fit. Well, I figured out that using a hack saw worked better than the cut off wheel. I think the heat of the cut off wheel was melting the black coating allowing the braid to flare out. After cutting with the hack saw, I could carefully push the hose through the fitting with a flat head screw driver, and the fitting would slide down the hose with some soapy water. I got 2 fittings done, finally. I thought things were going well and I had a system going, then I blow up the threads on one of the fittings. This stuff is a PITA. None of the Youtube videos mentions that.

That coated line is a pita. My buddy put all that in his jeep and he fought with it. I used wd-40 when I built a few of his.

I wrapped my hoses tightly with electrical tape prior to cutting with an angle grinder. No issues with assembly or use.

I've used both. There was definitely a learning curve, but no issues after the first couple failures. I wrap heavily and put a fair amount of stretch into the tape.

Cool. Any advice on trimming the stainless wrap? Seems like once the ferrul is on, the stainless will end up in the threads of the fitting. I've been snipping it with a small set of side cutters. Pretty tedious.

I used a cable cutter. Hose tightly wrapped with electric tape or package tape. Only had to trim 2-3 strands.

Thanks for all the advice. I don't have a set of cable cutters, so I followed Justin's suggestion. A few extra wraps of tight tape helped a lot. Allowed me to use a cut off wheel, resulting in a cleaner cut than the hack saw. Still had to trim more stainless braid than I liked. I think I'm opening up the braid more than necessary. The unwrapped braid then gets 'longer' than when wrapped and gets up into the threads. Glad it worked, last summer I realized I bought adapters that don't fit my 01 Mustang booster. So after I got to NV I sourced the correct adapters. It's been a learning experience. Here's hoping these don't leak.20180402_200706.jpg

I found that a very slow, light touch with the grinder helped as well. Hoping those work out for ya.
