Post Magnaflow and turndown = too loud
I just recently put some headers on my 72 302 and replaced the stock exhaust with a 2 into 1 custom and it goes into a Magnaflow and then a turndown connected straight from the muffler. I wanted a nice sound and I do like to hear it. But it's a tad too loud. Would replacing the turndown with more pipe from the back mitigate this or do I need to replace the whole muffler if I want it to settle noticeably?

I do have an extra flowmaster 40 series in the garage that I could replace it with. But man I love the tone from the Magnaflow

I'm waiting to get my truck back from the exhaust shop. It's going to be a convoluted system to fit my truck. I had expected to have to use a very small muffler to fit and was worried about how loud it would be. The shop doing my exhaust found a bigger muffler with the inlet & outlet on the same end, so hopefully it will be better than I expect.

A little while ago there was another conversation about this here:

After reading this I was *planning* to add the Car Chemistry exhaust inserts that Crawler recommended.
