This isn't Bronco related outside of the fact that both have starters.

My wife's 2008 Toyota Sequoia with the 5.7l died the other night. Only get the tell-tale "click" when you try to start it. Got the starter pulled (that was a PITA, had to drop half the exhaust) but I want to actually test the starter with a load on it.

I did the bench test with a spare battery and verified that the motor would run and what not but there is no load on the unit like a flywheel would create.

Any thoughts? AutoZone's test doesn't actually put load on it.

I don't want to just throw money at this as the starter is $200+ from RockAuto and more at the dealer.

You can buy a battery load tester at Harbor Freight pretty cheaply.

A amp clamp meter is the best way to verify the true load the starter is pulling. If you have a multi meter you can check the resistance in you cables and check your Battery voltage at the battery and compare the voltage at the starter for voltage potential.
