Post subject: | Tuffy Glove Box |
I bought a family cage so I need to modify my glove box. There are a couple of ways I have seen from CB.com - switch heater and glove box or use a swing out hinge. My issue is my EB did not come with a Glove box Liner so I have to buy one for about $30.00 plus labor, materials, and time to make one of the modifications. The Tuffy Locking Security Glove Box is $130.00 and no materials or modifications making the Tuffy Glove Box net cost of $90.00 plus labor savings, frustration, functionality, security, etc. Does anyone have the Tuffy Glove Box? Anyone done the glove box relocation or swing-out? |

Actually, this is the first time I have seen the swing out glove box, I think I could modify/use some of the stereo cabinet hinge hardware to make that one very easily. I will be looking at it closely when we get a cage in the little pony Otherwise, I was thinking cuttingthe box door down, welding the piece behind the cage in place and modifying the door. Still have a full size box, just a 3/4 size door. |

I've done the same research you have as I will have to make some type of modification for my cage also. I've actually thought of deleting the glove box altogether and getting one of the lockable center consoles. I am still considering the first mod where you flip the glove box and speaker grill side to side. |

I think that the flip is a great solution - it keeps the dash looking factory and usable. I am worried about my welding skills on the dash flip. I have logged almost 15 minutes of lifetime welding time :) |

I'm digging the idea of shortening the door to 3/4 width from stock. Provided it's done right I doubt most would even notice a difference. |

Now that I look at that Tuffy...it's pretty slick. If it were painted at the same time the dash was so it matched, it would look even better. I think that's the way I'll go. http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Tu ... co_Storage |

I am thinking the Tuffy Glove Box as well. I was planning on a locking stereo center console, but that is the only way for rear passengers to access the back seat with the Corbeau Seats upfront. I am thinking I will mount the Stereo and a Tuffy in the dash. That way, there would be NO modifications to the dash I have now. If there are a few guys interested, maybe we can do a group buy or arrange monthly special from Bronco Hut. BTW - great idea to Color Match the Tuffy to the Dash |

I'd be happy to ping Melissa and see if she'd do a group buy. Would someone like to send out a mass email to the club and see how many we can get on the Tuffy Glove Box list? |

There was also one more mod that I've seen, the hinges were slotted so that when it opened it slid to the left to clear the roll cage, I'll try to did up the link or pics. |

We have the same problem with the cage we built. You can still get your hand in there so it's still accessible but if you wanted to keep a flash light or something bigger in there it might be tough. |

I like the Sliding Hinge idea too. I found the link: http://www.broncohio.com/tech/gloveboxdoor.html Here is a pic of the modification: |

I might try the sliding door first. That way you don't mess up a good glove box door. Those things are not cheap, especially if you don't have an extra door & have to get a used one. The reason is that most of them have the VIN tag still on them and they are almost as valuable as the frame is for that reason alone. Try the slider, thats what I did. I didn't like it so I cut mine, welded the left over piece into the dash to take up the space and glassed it all in. I can get a 6 or 8 inch flashlight in there no problems and like I said, the fuse panel is still pretty easy access with the smaller door size as well. |

I have the tuffy, and let me tell ya, it sure is nice to have a lockable storage compartment, especialy when the top is off. Its a simple install but you may have to remove the cage to get it in, I did. Unless your trying to win some award at a show, just use the Tuffy. |

Thanks for the review JTS - I think that is what I am going to do, too. I am want a secure place to store stuff and need a box liner anyway. I am sending out a mass Email to the club to see who else wants in on a mass buy. |

I talked with Melissa and found out that none of the vendors make any $ on any of the Tuffy products because Graveyard sells everything at cost. So her price of $125 is pretty darn good. In other words, a group buy isn't worth it. |
