Just finished replacing all my ball joints and TRE's... everything went great until I was putting the wheels back on... My Dana 44 is going to have to be pulled from my 94 Fullsize bronco and either replaced or repaired and trussed... the tube has moved at the passenger center section.. we welded the tube to the center and there is crack in it all the way around on the weld so easy to tell. Also the 3 plug welds on the passenger side are leaking now.. not good.. all i did was jack the truck up and when i was putting the wheels back on i noticed it was leaking more than usual. Always leaked out of the driver side plug weld.. never the passenger side. So I will be pulling it to see if it can be saved and if the housing is still straight. I have to have the truck back on the road by memorial weekend so of course another deadline.. time to read up on this I guess. I guess I can look on the bright side. It happend in my driveway and not on the trail where most likely it would have failed, rotated and pulled out fo the housing destroying the axle shafts, probably locker and who knows what else.. I will take some pics tomorrow when I move it to a friends garage to start the tear down. Might just be easier to find another HP Dana 44 to replace this one with.. just have to fab up the track bar mount on it and move my gears/locker over.. buuuuumer So if anyone has a line on a full width 78 or 79 ford Dana 44... let me know... |

Well, IF you need another housing, I spotted a 44/9 from a 78/79 Bronco for sale on Craig's down here for 500 OBO. I'll see if I can't find the ad and post it up for you. Here ya go. |

Sorry man, I hope you get it fixed. Mine is also leaking from the plugs. A few years ago, we welded the tubes to the housing and it's been fine since, but if I were to do it all again, I'd truss it. |

Its not too bad.. but certainly dont feel safe driving it.. theres allot of weight and forces on that axle and honestly I pulled it out of a field so condition unknown.. I started tearing it apart, will probably have it out tonight and I will measure to see if its straight or bent. A couple pics.. all the plug welds are cracked as well. |

There was at least one 78/79 Bronco in the U Pull It yard in Denver. |

Thanks! someone also let me know there are three at Western on federal as well! so no shortage of options. I got the axle pulled last night, will be taking it down to a friend of mine to get repaired as he thinks it repairable.. going to grind out the plug welds and tube welds and re-weld everything then do a light truss. |

Chris considering the hell you put it through I'd say it's done pretty well. I did see some green oil leaking out of it though, might be a tear because it knows your thinking of putting it out to pasture. : ) |

Ha thanks. I do beat on it pretty good and with 6200 lbs of a truck it does well. I have a slight water pump leak that is pestering me (green liquid) As well as a rear main seal (I think) maybe end of the summer I will pull the engine and fix those things and put in the crane rockers and comp cam I have been storing in finally. Been storing them for almost 2 years now ;) |

Thanks Crawler Creations! (Jason) for the work on the fullsize Dana 44, i can get it under the truck and get her ready for memorial weekend! I dont think the Dana44 housing will be a problem for a while. I will probably start putting it back under the truck sometime tomorrow and finish up next week. and yes i did put new seals in ;) New seals in and all pretty |
