I just took care of mine yesterday afternoon and switched from a reg. plate to a Collector Plate. With a reg. plate and you will need to get a emmisions test every year, about 25.00 + the tag (mine was 67.00/year) so its about 92.00 per year all total. Keep in mind if you are registering it for the first time it will cost more due to the tax on the purchased amount. I got my Bronco for 750.00 as far as the City and County of Denver knows The Collector Plate for a 1970 was 187.00 for 5 years and NO EMISSIONS TEST ever again! If you do the math the collector for me comes to about 37.40 per year, paid up front for five years, a savings of about 1/2. Best parts is I don't need to go to the DMV again till 2014. Thats worth the $ by itself. |

Man, they raised the price big time on those. Last time I bought my tags, they cost me $110 for 5 years. But I have had collectors on it since 97 when it became "Collector eligible". |

Looks like the Collector plate is for 1975 and older. The 1976 and 1977 Model Year Broncos are going to have Emmission issues to deal with. I talked to PlumbDoctor yesterday and he has been dealing with Bronco Emmission issues the whole year on his 1976 :( |

You sure? I thought that it was anything with collector tags didn't have to go through an emission check other than the initial one. All the smog control devices are supposed to be on there, but you don't have to do the testing after getting the tags. That being said, once you get the first/last emission test done, cut that crap off and save it for later use. |

I just put collector plates on my sons 66 mustang in Douglas County. We had to have a safety inspection and vin inspection due to it being a salvage title, but no emmisions at all. Maybe because it is a 66. I will let you know what I learn on the 74 bronco we picked up today. |

I had bought mine after Sept 09. I have been waiting since August to be paid on 2 jobs so I can get the cats and finally be on the road |

You guys could always move to Colorado Springs and not have to deal with emissions BS. I think the last time I had to deal with that stuff was back in '04 when I brought my '93 Bronco out here. |

We've taken advantage of it as well and went personalized on it and got 4ordfun as the personal plate. |

Do you have to come up with your own circa plate to get the collector plates? Or is it something they issue you there? Are there other pre 1795 registration options? This is likely the route I'll take when it's time. J.D. |

No need for circa plates to get the collectors. They are two different, but related programs. Basically, once you get legitimate plates on your truck, you can then associate a circa plate for use "while traveling to car shows or meetings consisting of individuals who share a similar interest the the same type of car" or whatever. I'll find all the DMV regs and post them. |

If I'm reading the new Collector Plate application correctly, you can personalize the Collector Plate now? Mine came standard with prestamped letters and numbers. No options for personalization. I might have to upgrade to a new set if this is the case. And here is the link for the "Year of Manufacture Plate request" |

From what I am reading, you can add personalization. My hang-up for personalization is that you would loose the little truck graphic :(. |

99F250 (Jeff) just got personalized collectors plates for his 1972. So yes, you can do that. |

That is soooo cool! How much was the personalization? Do you have to pay for it 5 times since it is 5 years? |

It's not too bad. It's 58.00 when you turn in the application for one along with your top 3 choices of what you want on the plate along with why. Then it's just the normal registration and tax that you pay based on your county. I think it was $300.00 and some change for the 5 years. After that it takes 2 or 3 weeks to find out if you get to have it or not. Then if approved, it's another 5 weeks for them to make it. |
